Hawaii 16th January - the girl’s birthday
Thursday
Woke up to lots of lovely birthday messages and to the same beautiful Hawaii sky… how lucky am I?
Took the bus to the across the mountains to Kailua Beach. The out of town scenery was beautiful. It was interesting to see the residential areas along the way and amazing to see all our exotic, barely growing, houseplants flourishing and flowering in their natural habitat!
Quite a trek to the beach but it was worth it. The air feels lighter and fresher this side ( Eastern side)of the island. There were very few people about just the sound of the ocean and the birds …
Sadly the restaurant where we’d planned to have lunch had disappeared so we grabbed a takeaway. The food here in Hawaii is more about the intake of calories in a rush. Portions are huge, and steak and shrimp are the staples as well as the ubiquitous chicken in every way.
Went to Waikiki beach for the rest of the afternoon and lay in the sun. Birthday bliss! The sun goes down at about 6 and at Waikiki the sunset is spectacular …small sailing boats on the skyline making it very picturesque today.
Later to The Deck for roof top cocktails.
