Sorry for break in service
Getting usable internet access is proving to be a challenge. I’m going to post the words for now and add pictures when I can.
Monday
Well the rain continued throughout the night so we’re glad we postponed our camping. Looked at the weather map this morning and decided to head south to Oamaru where sunshine is forecast for the next couple of days.
We took the scenic route to Geraldine which is about halfway. The scenery was indeed spectacular it looked as though some of the rain fell as snow on the mountains. We passed wide open agricultural land some livestock and some arable and in the background the mountains loomed large. Most of the livestock is cattle though we saw some sheep, deer and black alpacas.
We stopped to walk and take photos of the river Rakaia at Windwhistle… the colour of the water is so intense.
Stopped to picnic before hitting SH1 to finish the journey to Herbert where we’ll be camping for 4 nights.
The campsite is quite empty as holiday season is coming to an end with children going back to school.. There is a fully equipped kitchen, laundry and sittin* room as well as shower/ toilet blocks.
We put the tent up in 40 minutes despite a stiff breeze undermining our efforts I’m so impressed with our little set up … just hoping* the weather doesn't turn. 😳 We’ve had a walk along the river that flows through the campsite and now we’re sitting here at 6.15 with the sun still shining down.
Glad you’re back again! They always say New Zealand is a green country and the scenery still looks beautiful! The sun is still shining as wellX
